Skiing Mt. Shasta

It's been quite a while--pre-Gideon days--since we've been to Mt. Shasta, and I'd forgotten how impressive a pile it is...

We found a place in the town of Mt. Shasta...

With a cozy wood stove...

We had great luck with weather: two sunny days for downhill skiing...

And then two days of snow for x-country and hiking:

Felix, now 14, showed off his stuff on the jumps...

And, even more impressive, downhilled with the dog:

Any break from home home home is welcome, but this one, by any standards, was a great one.

How wonderful to vicariously enjoy the majestic beauty of nature and the pleasure of snow and skiing! Thanks for sharing!

Experience of the way of all flesh might lead you to think that hard rocks, high mountains and broad continents would be stable and lasting, while the tiny molecules of life were fleeting: biology brevis, geology longa. In fact, over the history of the planet, the reverse is true. Mountains are worn down to seabeds, continents pulled asunder and ground together; oceans open and close. There is for example only one rock formation yet discovered that dates from the Hadean—the Acasta gneiss, in Canada.
